The Jeep made its first appearance in 1940 and quickly proved itself to be rugged and reliable, with a unique go-anywhere ability. During the war years, Willys and Ford produced a total of more than half-a-million Jeeps and by the time the war was over, the Jeep had proved itself in every major theatre.
