Ferguson & MF Tractor Collection

Editor: Chris Graham

A new series under the Tractor Collection group of Bookazines, Ferguson and MF Tractor Collection, fittingly has as the subject for its inaugural edition that most iconic of tractors, the Little Grey Fergie.

Of course, this popular name is a catch-all for the TE-20 range of straightforward and lightweight tractors that did so much to mechanise farming in Great Britain during the late 1940s and the 1950s. The tractor was the brainchild of brilliant designer Harry Ferguson, who also developed and introduced the hydraulically-controlled, three-point linkage plus a range of dedicated implements to be used with it. Together, the tractor, the linkage and the Ferguson-made implements created the Ferguson System. The concept was a fantastic success, both in the UK and around the rest of the world, which is surely one of the reasons why so many of these appealing little tractors survive in preservation today, more 60 years later.

Engines for the range were many and varied over the production run, using petrol, diesel, tractor vaporising oil and even lamp oil as fuel, and these options created different models within the range. The articles gathered together for inclusion in this bookazine reflect the breadth of this popular tractor’s achievements, as we’ll as the fondness with which it’s still regarded by enthusiasts everywhere.

You’ll find buying advice, pointers on model choice, owner’s tales, restoration stories, archive material and lots more besides. This volume is intended as a celebration of the legend that is the Little Grey Fergie, and the fun and satisfaction that it brings owners today. So, whether you need a working tractor to help manage a smallholding or horse paddock, you want to try your hand at competition ploughing, or you’re looking for an affordable and easy-to-live-with tractor to exhibit at shows, then you need look no further than one of these fantastic little tractors.
