In this issue we present no less than three different systems that operated trolleybuses into the 1950s and ‘60s, bringing colour images of them in action in London, Glasgow and South Yorkshire (Mexborough & Swinton).
Also included are colour images of Glasgow’s trams, which also survived until the 1960s, offering the unusual spectacle of trams, trolleybuses and motor buses all working alongside each other!
One of the biggest independent operators in Britain was United Automobile Services Ltd., which had a large presence along the east coast from Northumberland to East Anglia. Our coverage of United contrasts with the South Notts Bus Company Ltd., based in Gotham, which was at the other end of the scale in terms of fleet size.
We also visit Barrow-in-Furness to look at municipal operations on the Furness peninsular, while W Gash & Sons Ltd was another Nottinghamshire independent, this time based near Newark-on-Trent – a family-owned business that became a major player on the local transport scene.
Book 14 brings you a wide variety of operators from across Britain and all in glorious colour!
