Magazine Extras:
It’s been a good year for Porsche anniversaries — forty-five years of 928, fifty years of Carrera RS 2.7, ten years of 981, forty years of 944 and twenty-five years of 996 (are you feeling old yet?!) are just some of the milestones we’ve been celebrating across issues of 911 & Porsche World in 2022. Fresh focus on these cars not only reminds the wider automotive scene about our favourite manufacturer’s excellent legacy products, it also exposes them to drivers thinking about buying their next sports car. Perhaps you’ve bought this magazine because you’re excited by the idea of owning your first Porsche?
In recent years, the used Porsche market has changed considerably. Prices have risen across the board, though air-cooled cars have seen the biggest shift in values. Don’t be upset by ownership of a classic 911 being seemingly out of reach, though. Not only are there shrewd buys to be had without breaking the bank, there’s a much wider portfolio of pre-loved Porsches (models you might not have considered before reading the following pages) for you to hop into.
Though the cost of entry to Porsche ownership has climbed, this has had the knock-on effect of improving the quality of cars available. Put simply, with older Porsches now worth more than they used to be, the money being spent on them — in terms of both maintenance and restoration — has risen accordingly. This is great news for buyers and, as you’ll discover, even extends to entry-level Porsches, such as the 924 and 986 Boxster.
With this issue packed full of buying advice, real-world owner stories, tips on maintenance and modification, model history and more, we’re confident you’ll find it useful when selecting your first Porsche. And who knows? Maybe we’ll be pointing our cameras at your car in the not too distant future?!
Issue summary:
Showcasing a wide variety of Porsches to suit every taste and budget, this issue of 911 & Porsche World focuses on the best cars to consider when buying your first Porsche.
Top 3 issue features:
DYNAMIC DUO - When it comes to buying a Porsche, you want your new car to be fast, frugal and fun. These three words can be applied to two very different offerings in the Zuffenhausen back catalogue: the 911 SC and the 981 Cayman 2.7. Chris Pruden is lucky enough to own outstanding examples of both. We sample them.
MOD SAGA - This side of a GT3 or Turbo, the Carrera 4S is widely considered the optimum 996. Paul Layte decided to refine the recipe. We track his car’s evolutionary progress to hot-yet-practical road burner.
S-EXPRESS - The days of the 924 being considered the ‘poor man’s Porsche’ are happily behind us, but this means being able to pay peanuts for a tidy example of the front-engined, water-cooled coupe is also a thing of the past. Fret not, for attractively priced 924s are still out there, but you’ll need to act fast if you want to take advantage of this low-cost entry point into Porsche ownership.
