Issue #3 - Tate & Lyle
Due to popular demand this 100-page publication has been reprinted in perfect bound format. A high-quality finish, measuring 275mm by 220mm.
The company name, Tate & Lyle, is instantly recognisable to just about everyone. Sugar, whether to put into tea or coffee or sprinkle on various food dishes, is a part of many peoples’ diet, as is Lyle’s Golden Syrup, in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest unchanged brand. The Tate & Lyle company can trace its history back 135 years or so and is a well-known British institution and sugar refiner. The Thames Refinery is apparently still the largest cane sugar refinery in the world. However, the present-day company, Tate & Lyle plc, has moved away from refining and the refineries beside the River Thames, producing sugar and golden syrup, have been sold to American Sugar Refining Inc. Here we pay tribute to the company that gave us ‘Mr Cube’. For many years, Tate & Lyle vehicles were instantly recognisable as well, in their dark blue livery with gold lettering, usually carrying posters extolling the virtues of the company’s products. Surprisingly, there has not been a lot written about the fleet over the years and this publication attempts to fill that gap for transport enthusiasts.
