04 Simply the best
John Thomas and his team have been involved in something like 18 different restoration projects but the fabulous job they’ve made of the 1975 Volvo F88-290 OBT 419P means that John himself reckons it’s the best job they’ve ever done. Bob Tuck gets the chance to ride and drive this iconic Swedish head turner and it’s an experience he’ll never forget.

The DAF 2800 was the world’s first lorry with both turbocharging and intercooling and became a firm favourite with UK haulage fleets for many years. Mark Gredzinski looks at its heyday.
18 Wandering Star
Western Star used to be US-owned, with its factory in Canada. Then it was owned by Volvo, then by its Australian distributor (at which point ERF was acquired by Western Star). Now it’s under Mercedes-owned Freightliner’s wing, and the trucks are now built in Portland, Oregon. Ed Burrows tells the story of a truck that is as tough as they come which has proved strong enough to endure pass-the-parcel changes of ownership more convoluted than anything you could possibly make up.
