Old Glory Collectors Series
TRACTION ENGINES 5
As they worked, rusted away and, found their way into preservation
This is the penultimate instalment of Peter Love’s six-parts series looking at the manufacturers of steam traction engines – the machines that worked on the farm, pulling loads, driving machinery, such as threshers and saw benches, and working on the land.
Using mostly previously unpublished images, the series works its way through the builders in alphabetical order. Part Five covers Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies (continued from Part Four), Robey and Ruston Proctor.
From black and white archive pictures of machines in their working days, through to restored machines in all their glory and all points in between, machines are shows at the various stages in their lives which make for interesting comparison as the years have slowly passed by, through the hands of various owners and, not all of which survived.
